This was taken standing on the sidewalk in Shanghai, facing the Oriental Peal Tower. This was one of those times where I asked myself, why does every city always have some kind of tower? I guess it’s some kind of  innate human tendency to want to build things straight up. I guess it’s easier than building a big upside-down triangle.

This a sleepy, hazy day in Shanghai. I like this picture because with all the people in Shanghai, this has none in it.

OK, so it’s not really the end of the Great Wall. It’s just a place where the natural rock was so steep that the builders didn’t need to build the wall any higher — so it stops rather abruptly at the rock’s edge.

One thing that struck me about the Great Wall was that I couldn’t understand how anyone could possibly cross those mountains on foot or horseback. It just seemed impossible.
